It has been a few months since I have had the opportunity to update the Methodist-Katrina webpages. I have been dealing with many of the issues common to all, e.g., adjustors, contractors, bill collectors, lease holders, accountants, attorneys, recruiters, colleagues in need of references, etc. I have accepted the position of Chief Medical Officer at South Fulton Medical Center in Atlanta, where we will remain for the foreseeable future. While I have a lot of family here in Atlanta, where I spent the first 14 years of my US residence, my 30 year friendships with the Methodist Family, the patients and many others in the City are on my mind daily, making the transition that much more difficult. I hope to continue to update this page periodically. I have received new information on many of our colleagues which I hope to share on late pages. For now I refer you to the video below (Click the link to start), and then the lower one, after you read the extracts of the e-mail from the producer Mr. Logan Babin (stars when the mouse is placed over the video window).
"Dr. Barrocas,
...thank you to you and your staff for the heroic effort I know you all gave in horrific conditions. I can not imagine what that experience was like for you. But to be able to offer medical care under those conditions ranks you up there with the NYPD/FDNY efforts of 9-11. Truly heroic. Your pictures from the experience were incredible and touching. Thank you for sharing them with me.
I don't make videos. I'm just a Realtor/Appraiser in Houma. After helping one of my best friends (a doctor with LSU in NO) salvage items from his Fontainbleu home (6-8' water) about 2 weeks after the storm, I was haunted by the images.
I was working in my yard listening to my IPod soon thereafter when Springsteen's song just came up. Over 1700 songs on that thing shuffling randomly and that song just pops up. I had never heard it before. I just broke down in my yard and started crying.
The song and those images just kept playing over and over in my head until I finally spent one night making that video on my laptop. It was actually therapeutic for me. And the response from people around the nation (especially New Orleanians) has been quite humbling".
